In a little more than 90 years, the University of Miami has risen to become one of the great academic research institutions in the country. In the last year alone, we received more than 40,000 applications for a freshman class of approximately 2,400 first-year students. Our success is due in great part to our more than 193,228 alumni whose accomplishments speak volumes about the value of a University of Miami degree.
A bonus of being a first-year legacy student living on campus is priority fall move-in which allows you to beat the rush! Please note, a specific time frame will be assigned which must be adhered to in order for you and all legacy families to enjoy the best, most efficient experience. All housing related questions may be answered online at Department of Housing & Residential Life. Incoming legacy families are invited to a special annual reception hosted by the Office of Family Relations as an official welcome to campus. It is an honor and great pleasure to congratulate and welcome our newest legacy families to the U! Traditionally, this weekend provides families the opportunity to visit campus and take part in the numerous activities and events, including a University of Miami Hurricanes football game, that are planned for their enjoyment. Join us for special alumni campus walking tours during Alumni Weekend & Homecoming and see how the campus has changed and evolved since your time at the U. The Division of Alumni Relations celebrates graduating students and their families at our annual Graduating Legacy Reception. At this special ceremony, legacy parent(s)/grandparent(s) will have the opportunity to present their graduating legacy with an official UM legacy stole to wear during commencement. RSVP here to the May 2022 reception. Events

Each year, the University of Miami Alumni Association works with the Office of Admission and Office of Financial Aid to select a freshman recipient for a modest renewable legacy scholarship. Eligibility for the legacy scholarship is automatic for any legacy student who applies for admission and qualifies for financial aid. To be considered, one need only complete their undergraduate application for admission to the University of Miami and identify the name of their alumni parent/grandparent on the Common Application. The student must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) through the federal processor, with the University (school code 001536) listed as a recipient of the results. Recipients are notified over the summer of their selection by a representative of the Alumni Association.Help a future ’Cane come to the U! Make a donation to the Legacy Scholarship Program
