The University of Miami continues its rise to prominence among academic research institutions around the world largely due to the support and contributions of our alumni. As admission to UM becomes increasingly more selective, it is important that we pay special attention to our relationship with alumni and take exceptional care in evaluating legacy applications.

Incoming legacy families are invited to a special reception hosted by the UM Alumni Association as an official welcome to campus. The event includes the opportunity to meet other incoming legacy families, hear from UM administrators, and meet UM Alumni Association staff. Guests will enjoy refreshments and carnival-style food and games as we congratulate the 2018 legacy scholarship recipient. Stay tuned for more information.
The weekend provides families with the opportunity to visit and take part in the numerous activities and events that are planned for their enjoyment, including a University of Miami football game!

The UM Alumni Legacy Admission Forums are part of a dynamic schedule of events during the Alumni Weekend celebration. Designed to help students learn how to become a competitive applicant for undergraduate and graduate admission (only for law, medical, and business applicants at the graduate level), the sessions are led by the University of Miami admission officers and cover the basics in terms of the application process, interviews, essays, and test scores. Students will get the benefit of personally meeting the admission officers for the University of Miami in a casual setting.
Stay tuned for the Fall 2018 legacy information sessions.
Alumni Weekend Legacy campus tours will depart from the Office of Admission during Alumni Weekend. Stay tuned for specific dates in the fall of 2018.
Each year, the UM Alumni Association works with the Office of Admission and Office of Financial Aid to select one freshman recipient of a $5,000 renewable, legacy scholarship. Eligibility for the Legacy Scholarship is automatic for any legacy student who applies for admission and qualifies for financial aid.
To be considered, one need only complete their undergraduate application for admission to the University of Miami and identify the name of their alumni parent/grandparent on the Common Application. The student must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid through the federal processor, with the University (school code 001536) listed as a recipient of the results.
Recipients are notified over the summer of their selection by a representative of the Office of Alumni Relations.
