Cibonay Dames

Cibonay DamesWhy did you decide to attend the University of Miami?
I was attracted to the University of Miami for many reasons, but mainly because of the unmatched quality of education it provides. I was also drawn to the resources and networking opportunities that attending such a well-respected institution could offer, especially where I study in the School of Communication.

What does the UM Alumni Association scholarship mean to you?
I was both grateful and thrilled to be presented with such an honor. It is because of the generosity of the UM Alumni Association that I am able to commit more of my time and energy to my education and decrease the number of hours that I work during the week. The scholarship has given me peace of mind, as a huge financial burden has been lifted off my shoulders. I extend my sincerest thanks to the University of Miami Alumni Association.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I see myself as a graduate of the University of Miami's new Masters in Fine Arts in Interactive Media program. I hope to be working at a local advertising agency, but ultimately transition into opening my own.

Andrew Langen

Andrew LangenWhy did you decide to attend the University of Miami?
Two of my grandparents, as well as both of my parents, and my sister, attended, so it was practically my destiny. Additionally, I love that, in every interaction I have had, the staff were friendly and caring. All of this, combined with a very strong academic focus, with many opportunities for advancement, meant that UM is the place for me.

What does the UM Alumni Association scholarship mean to you?
This scholarship, for me, means that I will be able to honor the tradition my family has established. My family's successes are the result of their education, and this scholarship means that I will also be able to reach as high as my family did, if not more.

What will you study?
As of now, I am undecided. However, in the future, I intend to be a lawyer, like my family.

Chantal Gabriel

Chantal gabrielWhat does the UM Alumni Association scholarship mean to you?
When I received a call from the UM Alumni Association, the last thing I expected was to be given such a prestigious scholarship. I feel so honored and privileged, that out of all of the incoming freshmen, and transfer students, they chose me to be awarded this generous scholarship. My dream was to attend the University of Miami and in order to do that, I had to take out a private loan. With this scholarship, I can use it to pay off my loan little by little, which not only gives me a peace of mind, but also my family.

What will you study?
I plan on majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in Screen Writing.

Who is the legacy that qualified you for this scholarship?
My mother, Judy Elkins, graduated with a BFA and an MFA and my sister, Daniele Gabriel, graduated with a BFA and is currently working on her MFA.
