Why did you decide to attend the University of Miami?

I had quite the time trying to decide which college I would be attending. I wanted to find a place where I felt happy, somewhere I knew I could live for at least the next four years. There were so many options open to me when it came to colleges, and Miami was certainly high on my list of choices, but once I toured the campus and saw the community here, I fell in love. I knew right then and there that I wanted to attend the school in the fall. The beautiful scenery and the vibrant community give me confidence that I will enjoy my time here.

What does the UM Alumni Association scholarship mean to you?

I never expected that I would receive this scholarship! This scholarship feels like the culmination of years of my dad hinting at Miami and trying to convince each of my siblings to attend the school as he did. I'm honored that I was selected to receive a scholarship that honors not only my accomplishments but also the special connection I have with the school through my father. This scholarship simply reaffirms that I made the best possible choice when I decided to attend Miami. I am extremely proud and excited to have such an amazing opportunity to succeed with help in part from the Alumni Association through this scholarship!

What do you plan on studying?

I am planning to major in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Cell and Tissue Engineering.

Who is the legacy that qualified you for this scholarship? What did he do in his time at Miami?

After graduating from high school in Stuart, Florida, my father chose to attend the University of Miami. He was a resident in the honors dorm, a member of the Honor Student Association, and the Pre-Law Society. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Economics in 1987 and went on to earn a law degree from Florida State University. He remains an enthusiastic University of Miami alumnus to this day.

Why did you decide to attend the University of Miami?

I grew up with a father who has probably every single UM football game since 1990 recorded on DVD, so it is an understatement to say that I come from a Hurricane household merely. I also really admire the cognate system unique to the university and the ability for each student to take courses relevant to both their major and their other personal interests. I would be lying if I said that the weather was not a factor as well: a break from the cold of the Northeast seems very inviting.

What does the UM Alumni Association scholarship mean to you?

The UM Alumni Association scholarship has awarded me the ability to attend my dream school without the financial stress that I would have faced elsewhere. It also presents to me the opportunity to afford medical or graduate school once I graduate. The scholarship has given me a sense of humility and another reason to strive toward the fulfillment of both my academic and personal goals while in school.

What do you plan on studying?

I have yet to declare my major formally, but I plan to go pre-medicine or study any other subject that incorporates science with helping others.

Who is the legacy that qualified you for this scholarship?

My father was the person who qualified me for the Legacy Scholarship. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Miami. My aunt also has an undergraduate degree and a law degree from .
