The LGBTQ ’Canes is a group for LGBTQ and allied alumni of the University of Miami to reminisce about shared experiences at the U, talk about issues that affect the LGBTQ community, network with fellow alumni regionally, and celebrate being ’Canes!

UM Welcomes New Director of LGBTQ Student Center

Dr. Gisela P. Vega, the former associate director of LGBTQA Initiatives at Florida International University, joins the Hurricanes family with plans to enhance programming.

For more than 25 years, Gisela Vega has been a leader and advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. She now brings her extensive personal and professional experience, along with a continued pursuit of equality, to the University of Miami as the new director of the  LGBTQ Student Center.  To read more,  click here

Simply  fill out this form  and/or download the UM Alumni App  and submit the request to join the online community under the "Affinity Groups" tile.

Why should I join?
In addition to existing alumni benefits and services, members will be kept informed of opportunities to connect and engage with fellow LGBTQ 'Canes and allies and assist with initiatives designed to enhance the experience of LGBTQ 'Canes at the U!

Is there a cost?
No. Members are encouraged to further the University's mission through annual giving, but your UM Alumni Association membership is non-dues based, and your affiliation with the LGBTQ ’ Canes is lifelong! #CaneforLife
