Established in 1946, the University of Miami Citizens Board is a distinguished group of more than 250 business, professional, and civic leaders who actively champion the University’s philanthropic initiatives and elevate awareness of its programs. Since its founding, the Citizens Board has helped raise an estimated $454 million in support of students, faculty, research, and facilities.

Membership is by invitation and reflects a deep commitment to the University’s mission. Members contribute annually to support the Citizens Board’s programming, which includes a dynamic calendar of events designed to educate and engage them with the University’s priorities. These experiences empower members to serve as informed ambassadors throughout the South Florida community and beyond. The Citizens Board also fosters student-driven innovation through its granting arm—the Changemakers Student Fund. Launched in September 1997, the Fund provides resources for initiatives that enhance the student experience and expand the University’s impact. 

Who We Are

The Citizen’s Board’s mission is to build relationships that broaden the University of Miami’s reach and lead to philanthropic support of the University’s mission to transform lives.  

We are uniting, inclusive, relevant, caring changemakers, influencers, trailblazers, and advocates who catalyze transformation.  

We believe we can better the University of Miami by inspiring our members and our networks to support students and the quest for solutions to our most pressing problems. We provide an extensive reach and business acumen to help the University generate positive impact. By building relationships with professionals and community leaders and making important introductions, we ensure an ever-brighter future for the University and our community  

Membership is by invitation only. We count on each member to make an annual unrestricted contribution to the University and to secure funds from other individuals, corporations and foundations. Members expand their knowledge of the University through firsthand contact with students, faculty, administrators, and facilities on all of the University's campuses. Members are encouraged to share information and insight gained through these encounters with the South Florida community.
